Mega Livadi is located on the southwest side of Serifos and was built in the late 19th century, like Koutalas, for the needs of mining. For over half a century, until 1963 when the mines were permanently closed, the settlement was economically one of the most prosperous. It hosted several hundred workers who came from different parts of Greece to find work, while for some time, it was a separate community. At the time of the mines there was a police station, groceries, bakeries, schools, a chemist, shoemakers, tailors.

Nowadays there are still ruins, remnants of that time to remind the glorious past of the area, as well as the famous headquarters of the company "Serifos-Spiliazeza", an excellent neoclassical, which after many years of efforts is to be restored and become again a cultural center. Shortly after the Governor's Office is a monument reminding the bloody uprising of the miners in 1916. Their basic demand was the introduction of eight hours of work, and it was one of the first uprisings in Greece.

Opposite the monument Iroos, there is the symbol of the village and Serifos ’s symbol too, the famous loading and unloading ladder of the ships and near it the thermal baths of Almyros. In the settlement there is also the mining museum, which is housed in the building of the old school and operates during the summer months., There are also three traditional taverns and at the top of a hill there is one of the oldest prehistoric settlements of the Cyclades, the Plakalona, which has not yet been excavated until today.
