The Castle of Chora
We begin with the highest spot, the ruins of the Venetian castle at the top of the hill where Chora is built. The castle of Serifos is built around 1434 by the Venetian family of Michelies and was created with the purpose to be protected against raids. Its fortification design with the densely built small houses that surround it to play the defensive role of the wall. It had three successive circular fortifications, which incorporated the rocks and houses as well as the four gates, of which the western and northern (known as Lotzies) are kept in good condition.

You will be rewarded by the view from the four windswept churches. At the highest point is the church of Agios Konstantinos, with the paved courtyard and the magnificent view. In front of it we find the churches of Agia Barbara and the one of Jesus Christ, and at the lower part is Agios Ioannis the Theologian, which is wedged in the rock and above the ruins of an ancient Αthenian temple. According to the tradition and the mythology of Serifos, in his catacombs is hidden the head of Medusa who was beheaded by Perseus.

Pano Chora
The small settlement of Kastro, after the Greek Revolution began to expand slowly outside its entrances called "Lotzies" creating this way the quarter of Chora, which impresses with the attractive wild mountains and its charming island-like view. The densely built-up area remains characteristic of the residential development and the alleys heading down the whitewashed houses, crossing their path to the square of Pano Chora, named "Pano Piatsa".

The Pano Piatsa is a central, popular point of Ano Chora. On the picturesque, paved square the most prominent structures are the neoclassical building of the Town Hall since 1908 and the grandiose church of Saint Athanasios, the Metropolis of Serifos, which share many common architectural characteristics with the Monastery of Taxiarches and was built in 1820 right on the remnants of another, smaller church. The ‘PIATSA’ of Ano Chora is waiting for you all day long to discover its tasteful cafes with the colorful charming chairs.

Κato Chora
The beautiful settlement of Serifos is being completed by the quarter of Kato Chora, which is located along the slope, with the church of Evangelistria standing imposing and painting the white landscape of the central square. The widen and thin alleys lead to the main path with the big stairs meeting the road that reaches to Livadi area. Its route crosses small churches, the Memorial of the Fallen, but also the Folklore Museum, which is worthful to visit. Next to the museum is the unique theater of Serifos, which hosts various cultural events throughout the year, as well as the annual Festival of Serifos during the summer. The Memorial of the Fallen (1935) is a marble tribute to the 36 victims of Balkan Wars, World War I, and the Asia Minor Disaster. Later, another marble slab with three names of World War II victims was added.
