Koutalas

Koutalas is located on the southwest side of Serifos and is a coastal settlement, with great historical value, as it relates to the mining history of the island. It was founded at the end of the 19^th century and was the mining center of the island, together with Mega Livadi. Today, various ruins are saved (loading ladder, warehouses, wagons, rails, etc.), but also galleries, which are remnants of the mining period.

At the edges of the settlement dominate two beautiful chapels Agia Theodora and Agia Irini. From their courtyards you can enjoy the exceptional view, as both are built amphitheatrical. Furthermore, you can find in the village the cave of Koutalas, which is not visitable, although it has both archaeological and geological value, ruins of the Castle of Gria and the White Tower, which has been partially restored and some other landmarks.
