Chora - Kallitsos

Kallitsos is built on the northeastern side of the island and has probably taken its name from the ancient word ‘’kallistos’’. It is located above the beach of Kentarchos, which can be reached either by a footpath or by sea. Formerly, the settlement was located higher, in the place of Xiro Chorio, but it was destroyed by pirate raids and then after the revolution of 1821 it was built again on its current location

The village has narrow alleys and traditional Cycladic houses, like the most villages of Serifos. A step beyond the settlement, there are the ruins of a vaulted above-ground tomb of a Roman centurion from which derives the name of the beach of Kentarchos.
